Its Tuesday, so that means another review 🙂
Here is a little background story into how I stumbled upon this show. I was reading a book by one of my favorite authors, Liane Moriarty. I was only a couple of chapters in, when I realized this book was going to be part of my Top Five favorite books. Days later, I was in my dorm, more than halfway through the book now, and I had just put it down for the night. I was scrolling down Amazon when I learned that HBO had taken the book and turned it into a mini series. I couldn’t believe it. The book I was reading and had fallen in love with was being made into a T.V. Show! I was stoked! Soon enough I realized that meant I had to finish the book really fast in order to start watching the show. So I did. I finished it in the next two days, and finally got to start watching Big Little Lies.
I had nothing but high expectations about this show. I had loved the book so much, that I could not wait see how my beloved characters would come to live. I was skeptical at first because I am one of those people that always thinks the actual book is better than the movie/show. But I have to be honest and say that this mini series came pretty close to matching the caliber of the book. It hit all the right points, the plot was as exciting as it was in the book, and the peoe in charge of the project made good choices on what to put on and what to leave out. They even managed to bring the characters to live, coming very close to what I imagined when I was reading the book.
Which brings be to my next point. One of the things I fell in love the most with this book, were the characters, specially the three woman who became best friends and dealt with all kinds of issues and situations that they were faced with. Each one of them had their own unique and distinct personality. When I found out who was going to be playing them, my reaction expressed nothing more than pure joy. So… here you have it:

Just imagine these three women working together. It was seriously amazing. I think it was one of the reasons I liked the show so much. Their performances were amazing, and each of them complemented each other and made justice to their characters in a marvelous way.
If you are looking for a thrilling, dramatic, funny, and heartbreaking type of show, this is for you. The show starts with a variety of different people being questioned, and our main characters under investigation. It is a show based on the every day lives of three women ans their families in the small town of Monterey. You will find yourself being able to relate to them and the every day problems they face. But at the same time be exposed to circumstances you will hope you never find yourself in. The connections in events that will be presented to you through out this series will leave you in awe. It is just so well done and well thought of. So many things are going to be thrown at you that you are never going to be expecting.
I urge you to go ahead and watch this show. It has eight episodes that will definitely leave you wanting more. But guess what? There is a season two coming out that will feature Meryl Streep as a new cast member. Who will she be playing? You are going to have to wait and see.
If you like to read, I fully recommend you go ahead and read the book as well. But if that is not the case, then this is the best way of keeping up to date with the girls of Monterrey.

Pequeñas Mentiras
El año pasado cuando empecé a leer el libro Pequeñas Mentiras de Lianne Moriarty, una de mis autoras favoritas, me tomó solo un par de capítulos para darme cuenta que iba a ser uno de mis libros favoritos. Poco tiempo después descubrí que HBO había llevado a la pantalla la serie del mismo nombre y basada en el libro. Como fan que soy de las series de tv casi muero de la emoción. Enseguida capte que tenía que terminar el libro lo antes posible y así fue: dos días después estaba lista para conocer en persona a los personajes a los que les había cogido tanto cariño.
Mis expectativas de este show eran bastante altas. El libro me gustó tanto, que no podía esperar a ver como mis amados personajes cobraban vida en la serie. Debo confesar que estaba un poco preocupada porque soy de esas personas a quienes les parece que los libros siempre son mejores que las películas y que la mayor parte del tiempo la versión fílmica no le llega ni a los tobillos, pero tengo que decir que en este caso quedé gratamente sorprendida. Hicieron la serie igual de interesante que el libro, escogiendo muy bien que incluir y que dejar por fuera. Mas importante aún, le dieron vida a los personajes y se acercaron mucho a la imagen de ellos que yo tenia en mi cabeza mientras leía el libro.
Esto lleva a mi siguiente punto: una de las principales razones por las que me enamoré tanto del libro Pequeñas Mentiras se debió a los personajes, especialmente las tres mujeres principales que logran crear una hermosa amistad manejando todo tipo de situaciones que se les presenta como si fueran una familia. Cada una tiene su propia personalidad única y particular por lo que mi reacción cuando descubrí quienes eran las actrices que les darían vida a las tres mujeres principales fue de total emoción. Solo imagínense a estas tres talentosas mujeres trabajando juntas. Las tres se complementan maravillosamente entre ellas personificando su papel a la perfección.
Si están buscando una programa emocionante, gracioso, y a la vez dramático y algo triste, tengan por seguro que Pequeñas Mentiras les va a gustar. La serie empieza con una variedad de personas que están siendo entrevistadas mientras nuestras tres protagonistas se encuentran bajo investigación. La trama los llevará dentro del mundo de estas tres diferentes mujeres, sus familias y el día a día de sus vidas en Monterey. Se les va a hacer fácil relacionarse con ellas e identificarse con sus problemas de madres y esposas mientras que a la misma vez serán expuestos a circunstancias que de sus vidas jamás quisieran imaginarse tener que pasar. Las conexiones entre los eventos y los sucesos de la trama están tan bien pensados y realizados que muchas veces los dejará con la boca abierta por lo inesperado y sorpresivos que son.
Con solo ocho episodios en su primera temporada Pequeñas Mentiras los dejará queriendo más. Afortunadamente la segunda temporada ya fue anunciada con la adición de nada más y nada menos de la talentosa Meryl Streep al elenco.
Si les gusta leer, les recomiendo que también lean el libro. Si no es el caso, entonces esta es la mejor manera de mantenerse al día con la vida de las chicas de Monterey.
